Protect your Content from Content Pirates
One of the most time consuming aspects of operating a successful blog is creating and adding unique content. This is essential if you want to have any kind of success with your readers and the search engines. Unique content is the key to building authority in your niche and keeping those visitors coming back. This is one of the main reasons why people also fail at having a successful blog. It really can be a serious pain to continue to provide quality information at a steady pace.
If you are one of those people that takes pride in the content you provide on your website then I applaude you. I know how much work it can be. One thing that really gets me going is when all that hard work is taken advantage of. Personally, I can not stand a thief and the internet is full of them. You know, those people that will swipe your RSS feed or simply copy your source code stealing your content. I hate Content Pirates.
These guys make me sick to my stomach. They may as well be stealing stuff right out of my house cause it makes me feel the same way. I am sure that some of you feel the same way and in this article I will give you a few tips on how to protect your very valuable and very unique content.
Of course the first step you should take if you are serious about protecting your content is to register your website with the Copyright office. This will give you a legal leg to stand on if you find yourself in a battle to determine exactly who created the content in the first place. They charge a small processing fee but it is
well worth it. You can find them at wwww.copyright.gov.
Another option for protecting your content is to use a javascript which disables the users ability to ‘right-click’ on your webpages. This works good for the novice, or newbie, as they will usually just go somewhere “easier” to steal the content from. Another advantage to using this method is simply letting content pirates know that you are on to their ways. Kind of like having an empty cop car where it can be seen by people. It simply makes them think that someone may be watching. You can find a great little tool to help you create your code at Right Click Protector.
You will also need to monitor the web for content thieves that have stolen your precious content. This is easily done these days with your choice of services. I have found a great service I want to share with you that will monitor the blogosphere for you looking for copies of your content. The service is completely free and they also allow you to ping them whenever you post new content. This is very easy to set up as they monitor your RSS feed. You can get more info and sign up at CopyGator.
Well I hope this helps you put those pesky content pirates in their place and keep the content you worked hard to create on your site where it belongs. This is only a few things that can be done, if you have any tips for protecting your content post a comment and share with the rest of us.

Is CopyGator really better than Copyscape? In my experience I have done just fine closely monitoring my search engine results. A simple copy and paste of your own sites content from time to time is not only prudent, but protects your content from cheaters.
Two cents.
In my opinion CopyGator is NOT better than Copyscape but it is geared towards bloggers and is a FREE service which is why I recommend it to my fellow bloggers. You are correct on the copy and paste…users of this method should try to use a portion of their content that is as unique as you can get and then enclose that search in quotation marks like this…”my unique phrase”
