Article Marketing for Rankings
Saturday, July 5, 2008 20:55Today I want to write about my experiences with article marketing and this blog. I started this blog in May and posted my first entry on May 18th. It’s been basically six weeks and I have monitored my Alexa ranking the entire time. For those that may not know, Alexa ranks your site based on incoming links. Google uses pagerank for the same type of stats.
On May 18th my Alexa ranking was 4,874,912. Not bad for a brand new blog. In contrast I have a much older website (strictly html) that is currently ranking in at 2,794,736. I have done virtually no marketing on behalf of this site and it shows. Honestly I enjoy the platform provided by Wordpress and the ease it offers in upgrades and overall flexibility.
Please understand that I have NOT been aggressive in my marketing efforts so far. I still work a full time job and I have other sites that I am trying to get going so my time is spread kinda thin. However, I am actually proud of the fact that I have pushed this blog to an Alexa ranking of 783,266 as of this writing. Simply by employing the very tactics I discuss in articles posted on this site.
When I first saw my initial ranking over 4 million I told my wife that my goal was around 500,000. It’s only been six weeks and I have moved along faster than I thought I would, so now I’m thinking that I will persue a ranking of 250,000 by October 1st. I still don’t show any Pagerank so if I could get a pagerank of 1 with an Alexa rank of 300,000, or less by Oct. 1, I would be very happy indeed.
I have a brand new social site for people that enjoy brewing their own beer at home that you can visit if you like at Home Brewers Network that is currently ranking at 11,028,395. This site is BRAND NEW. I haven’t done anything much in the way of marketing for this site yet. Once I get a few members it will market itsself so I’m not worried much about it. Really just a quick plug…back to the topic.
Increasing your Alexa ranking by increasing the amount of incoming links to your site has been a learning experience for me. There are many methods of increasing your incoming links. You can submit articles to several sites, post comments on related blogs, and find linking partners to name a couple. I prefer to submit articles and let publishers post them on their websites.
Of course you need to know what you are talking about and should write about “hot” topics. If you hit on something that works try to write a series of articles with a part1, 2, 3… I am currently experiencing a streak of good luck with an article series titled “Maximize your Search Results” posted in the seo sections of article submission sites like EzineArticles . They are not the only submission site I use and the articles are showing up on a good many sites from a variety of submission sites.
You can find part 1 and 2 posted on this site in the SEO category. I have just submitted part 3 in this series and have already written part 4. I will continue until I am all out of info regarding search results and search engines in the hope that these will continue to give me traffic and rankings for months or even years to come.
Thanx and remember…Always strive to improve and success will follow

How many articles have you written so far? Do you point your articles to your blog or to your html website?

At this point I only have 4 active articles. I have an article that is almost ready but I have been working on the theme and basic monetization of the site for the past week so I am a little behind on marketing. I point all of my traffic to the blog.
