Monetizing Your Content
As I have worked on this blog I have tracked my articles and their placement in the search results. All smart marketers know to track everything and test it all twice. So I have a few articles that consistently bring me search engine traffic and that’s great, hooray for seo. The real trick is getting something out of this content, other than the satisfaction of knowing my articles are well received. Monetizing your content may sound easy, but are your ads getting clicks?
So what should I do with this unique content that the search engines love? Place adsense every other paragraph? Update it as more info becomes available? Do nothing? The choices are only limited by the author’s ability to be creative and the content. If your article is about a product then it is a no brainer…add a link to the product and sell it. But there are other ways to get the most from your content.
One thing I have started to do is to create unique autoresponders with information based emails specifically for those articles that bring me high traffic. Since my blog is article driven with quality content this has helped me to build niche email lists that are highly profitable. I like to place the sign up form directly into the post (at the end) giving people the chance to learn more about a specific topic. This is actually working better than I thought it would. I have not yet tested different positions for my form but plan to start very soon.
Another trick I have started to implement is a Related Products list at the end of my article to entice visitors. While this has not been as effective as the email form, it has netted me a few sales I do not think I would have gotten. This also helps search engine spiders index your pages and could even result in double listings in the serps.
There are all the usual suspects that could be added to your content such as adsense, banner ads, contextual ads, and many other affiliate based advertising. However there is this little thing called ad blindness and it affects us all. Ad blindness is the human equivalent to horse blinders. We see so many text ads and image ads that the average person just acts like they are not there at all.
To overcome this you need to be creative and use your advertising sparingly. Make your ads match the theme of your site not only in the products and services you offer but also in design and color. If they become a part of your site then they do not seem as obtrusive. This will make people feel like you are not trying to sell them the kitchen sink. If you can make your visitors more comfortable with your site they will return more often and your ads will get more traffic too.
Thanx and remember…Always strive to improve and success will follow
